Part 5: A Postscript

Laura Roslin held up the covers as bedclothes-clad Bill Adama flipped off the light in the lavatory then made his way over to his rack. She lay on the far side, her back against the bulkhead. He nodded to her as he approached.

“I see you found it.”

“Mmm-hmm,” she replied as he shut off the lamp then sat on the edge of the bed and pivoted to lay down beside her on his back. The “it” was her blue silk nightgown, the one she thought she’d lost on New Caprica but apparently had just left behind in his quarters at some point.

He took the covers from her then held out his arm, inviting her to snuggle at his side. She did, smiling as she rested her head on his shoulder. She smoothed her hand across his chest with a sigh and closed her eyes. She fiddled with his dogtags idly until his hand covered hers, stilling her fingers.

Laura tilted her head and looked up at him when he drew her hand up to his mouth and kissed her fingers. In the shadows, she could just make out his profile. It was a blessedly familiar and comforting sight that made her heart flutter in her breast. The New Caprican memories were so strong, making her wonder how she’d not realized that until he’d kissed her earlier.

“What is it?”

The gentle rasping query in the darkness made her smile. She skimmed her fingers over his lips as he slid his hand down along her arm. It was warm.

Touching his cheek, she replied, “Just memories.”

She felt him smile and his other hand curled up to cradle her head to him. When she closed her eyes again and settled, he drew his fingers lightly through her hair … in the way he knew relaxed her, eased her.

“No more neglecting this,” she whispered, returning her hand to his chest.

“No,” he agreed, his voice soft and filled with the emotions that she felt.

He shifted and she felt the touch of his lips to the crown of her head, then his hand holding hers.

“Sleep.”

Laura nodded and dreamed.
